The TİYK-Leopard 2A4 aka TİYK-LEOP2A4 Project is an indigenous Turkish modernisation programme for the Leopard 2A4 Main Battle Tank in service with the Turkish Land Forces. As of 2023, the TİYK-Leopard 2A4 it is still under development and the initial contract calls for the modernisation of 80 tanks with the option for another 200+.

In 2005, Turkey ordered 298 surplus Leopard 2A4 tanks from Germany, followed by a second order of 56 vehicles in 2009. Whilst being the most modern tanks in the Turkish Land Forces inventory, they still required modernisation (as proven with the Leopard 2A5 and A6).

Though a program had not been ordered by the Land Forces, Turkish Defence contractor ASELSAN developed a proposed upgrade package called the Leopard 2 NG, which was unveiled in 2011.

Turkish Leopard 2A4 were deployed with their Land Forces during Operation Euphrates Shield in 2016 where it suffered several losses. Lessons learnt from the operation highlighted the need to up armour and modernise the A4.

The Leopard 2 NG was deemed too expensive and never made it past the Tech Demonstrator phase. Instead, the A4T1 was developed as an interim measure to up armour 40 A4, whilst the TİYK-LEOP2A4 Project requirements etc were finalised.

Turkish firm BMC is the main contractor for the TİYK-LEOP2A4 Project, with Roketsan as a sub-contractor and in May 2023 ASELSAN was also signed up as a second sub-contractor.

The TİYK-LEOP2A4 is expected to have similar capabilities of the Leopard 2 NG and will feature indigenous technologies used in the new Atlay tank and upgraded M60TM (comms and battlefield management systems?).

ASELSAN will be providing a new Fire Control System, Remote Weapon System, Tank Command Control Communication and Information System, Driver optics, Active Protection System (soft kill) and Situational Awareness Camera System.
