The CV9030 is the first of the export models of BAE Systems Hägglunds, CV90 (Combat Vehicle 90) tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Based on the Strf 9040, it featured a 30mm auto cannon and is considered the Mk1 in Sweden.

Norway was the first export customer, purchasing the Mk1, followed 4 years later by Finland and Switzerland who purchased the Mk2 CV9030.

The 30mm auto cannon is the Mk44 Bushmaster II by ATK, which is fully stabilized. It Fires all 30mm x 173mm, 30mm x 170mm Rarden & KCB rounds, including the latest generation of programmable air burst munitions. The CV9030 can be fitted with modular armor such as MEXAS and AMAP. This can be added during the manufacturing stage or added mission dependant.

CV9030 Mk 1 Description

The CV9030 Mk 1 has an Analog environment and 14 Litre Scania Engine. It can be identified by the following modifications:

  1. Plates and coaxial MG have moved a bit
  2. Additional sighting
  3. Turret armor changed
  4. New 30mm main gun and changes to mantle
  5. Storage boxes added to the turret sides
  6. Smoke Grenade Launcher clusters changed
  7. Added armor to hull
  8. Troop section hatch changed with additional cupola

CV9030 Mk 2 Description

The Mk 2 has a Digital Environment & 16 Litre Scania Engine. The Digital environment, supports the installation and use of effective sub-system integration, such as C4I Command & Control, Battlefield management network  and a powerful means to assist in system failure detection and identification.

The Mk2 features Drivers night vision and a Digital Fire Control System, which comprises a laser designator, Commanders Sight, Gunners Thermal Channel and back-up sight.

Norway initially purchased 104 CV9030 Mk 1 in 1994. Deliveries started in 1996 and were completed in 2000. The CV9030N has been deployed with the Norwegian Army as part of ISAF in the Afghanistan War.

In June 2012 The Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation and BAE Systems signed a contract for the production of 41 new vehicles as well as upgrades to 103 of the Norwegian Army’s existing fleet of CV9030N. The upgrades include enhanced capabilities for protection, survivability, situational awareness, intelligence, and interoperability.

These will be delivered in five configurations, 74 Infantry Fighting Vehicles, 21 Reconnaissance Vehicles, 15 Command and Control, 16 engineering    support, 16  will be in a multi-role configuration and 2 driver training vehicles.

Deliveries started in 2014, with 20 delivered as of 2015 and expected to be completed in 2019.

Finland has purchased a total of 107 CV9030 Mk 2 in two separate orders. The first order was in 2000, for 57 vehicles. These were delivered in 2003 to 2007. The second order was in 2004 for 45 vehicles. These vehicles were delivered from 2006 to 2007 with some vehicle components supplied from Finland.

Switzerland purchased a total of 186 CV9030 Mk 2 in 2000 for $424,000,000 as a replacement for their M113. The vehicle is known as IFV 2000 and Grenadier Tank. Swiss Defence Company RUAG Land Systems Ltd assembled the complete turret, integrated the turret and chassis and ran the full performance qualification. Deliveries ran from 2001 to 2005.
